Sudden Drop in Feedburner Subscriber Count
This is really strange and while I have a feel that it might be a temporary glitch I can’t help but panic a bit. My blog had a subscriber count which used to vary between 75 to 80. Yesterday the subscriber count has suddenly dropped to 45.
I am completely clueless how can the feed subscriber count drop so drastically in one day. While I tried to look up the issue in Google it seems many other bloggers are facing the same problem but there has been no official announcement from FeedBurner or Google ( now that Feedburner is a Google property)
If you are also seeing any such abnormal drop in your FeedBurner count please drop a note in the comment.
Update:
Now that the blogosphere is going crazy about the drop in FeedBurner subscriber stats Google has finally taken the time to put a short reply. As expected this is a glitch in their system with Feedfetcher that keeps track of your feed subscribers on Google Feed Reader and iGoogle. This is what they say about the sudden drop in the feed count.
” Issue: We are observing reduced subscriber totals reported by Google Feedfetcher for many feeds. This number represents subscribers you may have via Google Reader and iGoogle. These lower totals have occurred over the past two days. We’re working closely with the Feedfetcher team to determine when a resolution might be possible.
Workaround: None. Please bear in mind feeds are available as usual and subscribers (feed and email) are receiving any updates you may be posting. This is a reporting issue only. “

I am also seeing a drop.. from 1900 to 500. Any more info on this?
Yup, I went from 1500 to 400.
My feedcount was back for a day in between and was showing 82 and from yesterday it has again dropped to 39.
My feed count went from 208 to 75, now 67. In the help forums, others are experiencing the same, but no official word as to what the issue is or when it will be fixed. A few are speculating a bug with redirection-but I switched to Google several months ago-albeit not an easy change and the count was back within 24 hours- this time it’s going on 4 days and not fixed.
I’m in the same boat as you…my count was cut in half when I logged in today. Guessing it’s temporary.
I’m averaging around 500 subscribers and saw my numbers drop to 250 the first day, and then 150 the second.
What makes this worse is that it happened the day after I mentioned how many subscribers we have, when the whole time the number count is hundreds below that.
Hope they get it worked out soon.
Mine went from 575 to 150. When it drops that much, you’re not losing readers, something is happening with the google feedfetcher. It’s nothing to worry about.

That’s what I thought too. There must’ve been some glitch with Feedburner.
Mine dropped by half from 180+ to 90+ for the past 2 days…
Good to know that I am not the only one who is experiencing the glitch.
Its definitely a glitch because subscriber count cannot drop by 50% overnight and that too for so many blogs. But the point of concern is its been a good few days now but there has been no remedy to it. As we all know feedburner subscriber count is probably the only and most objective count that we can get about how many people are subscribed to our feeds. Also it tells about the popularity of your blog and its value.
Let’s hope that it gets fixed fast.. please post if you find any other info on this.
